BIO
Daniel Griego is a Portland-based artist whose abstract work explores the space between structure and spontaneity. Working primarily with ink and oils, his process-focused approach blends expressive movement with intricate detail, often evolving intuitively rather than through premeditated design.
Inspired by technology, nature, architecture, and the movement of people and life, Griego’s compositions coalesce lines and shapes into vague yet suggestive forms—machines, creatures, structures—hinting at invented possibilities that resist fixed interpretation. Each piece holds tension between chaos and control, abstraction and recognition, intention and instinct.
With a background in software engineering, Griego brings a deep appreciation for systems and logic—but through years of creating, he’s found that his best work emerges when he lets go of structure entirely. While code requires precision and planning, his art comes alive when he can shut off that part of his mind and simply feel. This contrast continues to inform his practice, anchoring his exploration of how human intuition can reshape the rigid and reimagine the mechanical.
